Why in the world would a dentist take a class to learn bodywork techniques to treat infants? The newborns don't have any teeth!

Airway Problems Don't Start in Adulthood

Airway problems in adults include sleep apnea and snoring. Where did these adults come from?

They were adolescents with crooked teeth and then had braces.

And the teens were school kids with hyperactivity and/or asthma.

The kindergarteners had narrow jaws. They did not have spaces between their baby teeth, and so naturally, the permanent teeth would not come in straight.

Preschoolers and toddlers might have been thumb suckers and mouth breathers.

Tongue tie and possible speech problems anyone?

"And the newborns? Can we start here?"

Can We Start With the Newborn?

And the newborns? Can we start here? They have just had major trauma. They were born.

Whether the birth is natural through the birth canal or by C-section, the birth process is traumatic. Hence, babies have tension in their bodies. This could adversely affect them for a lifetime if not released. The good news is that their bodies can be treated immediately, and gently, with craniosacral fascial therapy.

Honestly, tension in babies can even be from the mother during pregnancy. It can be either physical or emotional. Baby is in tune with the mother. Craniosacral fascial therapy can also address this trauma.

Airway dentistry is about looking earlier.

Airway dentists wanting to go to the root of the problems find themselves traveling back in time. If we had only addressed the problems at an earlier stage, there would have been less suffering. Less treatment would have been needed.

What Is Craniosacral Fascial Therapy?

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) is appropriate for all ages, especially infants. It is gentle and lets the baby's body unwind. Babies who release can often latch more easily, sleep better and poop better.

Breathing, Fascia and Development

Tight babies are often mouth breathers. Within a few sessions of CFT therapy, the baby will typically become a nose breather. Nose breathers are much healthier than mouth breathers. They sleep better, get sick less, and earn better grades. Their jaws have a chance to develop large enough for the teeth to erupt straight.

Dr. D understands the fascia and how it affects jaw growth, sleep and other airway issues. Tongue and lip ties are also fascia, and protocols have been developed taking this information into account.
